Dell Summer Social Innovation Lab

Kingston, MA - July 14 - August 4, 2012

Presented by Transformative Action Institute & Dell Social Innovation Challenge Summer Social Innovation Lab brought together 19 young entrepreneurs – many of them among the top candidates from the Dell Social Innovation Challenge – for a three-week institute to learn best practices in launching a social enterprise. Led by award-winning educators and mentors, the program taught strategies in personal growth, design thinking, storytelling and business development. Hailing from 14 countries, the inaugural 2012 fellows 1) refined their ideas and approaches to make social impact, 2) pitched to impact and angel investors, 3) gained hands-on experience to improve their ability to make their desired impact, and 4) built long-term connections with a diverse network of allies. The best thing about the institute was that it gave me a clarity of vision which I actually required at that time, not only for my project but also for my life. Getting in touch with great mentors from all walks of life who had actually lived their ventures showed me that entrepreneurial success is not a preserve of an esteemed few, it is for all those people who hustle hard. In short this institute inspired me to live its motto 'Dream, Design and Do'. - Ankur Dutta, BioArray

The summer social innovation lab was exactly the catalyst we needed in order to clarify what our goals were as a social enterprise and to learn what direction we needed to seek in order to execute! 5 months later, we could not be more excited or grateful to see that it is working!!! - Emily Núñez, Sword & Plough

Nanoly will help immunize the 26 million children in the world that do not have access to vaccines each year. The institute introduced Nanoly to new opportunities in social entrepreneurship. We need institutes like the this to introduce current and inspiring young entrepreneurs to resources. These institutes are our guidebooks on how to make our ventures succeed. - Nanxi Liu, Nanoly
